MEMORIES

I remember sitting with my dad in the evenings and learning how to draw matchstick men. For some reason, that memory stuck a lot. I remember enjoying a bowl of beans porridge, it was my favorite meal with dodo.

I remember this one evening, my mum was preparing dinner and Friends was on TV. I walked in and stood in front of the TV and David Schwimmer was having one of his ‘stare at the camera’ scene and I thought he was looking at me and I freaked.

I remember my dad teaching me how to ride a bicycle. He had gotten me a girly quadricycle and my older sister had this black cool looking bike. I used the training wheels for a really long time, and he was really patient. The downside was the scratches and injuries I had every other day, my mum was none too happy about it.

I remember Rex, she was our dog. I was scared of my dog. One morning I stepped out of the bathroom and saw her sitting at the door, I screamed and banged the door till my dad came and took her away (no way in hell, she was biting me!).

I remember when my mom had my younger sister. My older sister and I had stood on the table in the centre of the sitting room chanting, ‘I have a new sister’ for a really long time. When they finally came home from the hospital, this child could wail the angels down (it was so annoying). I wouldn’t trade her for anything now though.

I remember fighting with my siblings. The annoying thing was we hardly fought so when it happened, it was really stressful to exert all that energy. I remember one evening my uncle came to visit. In excitement, I ran to him so he could throw me up as usual. Unfortunately, on this day, it was an episode of This Life, he didn’t catch me and I ended up with an injured knee. My daddy took me to Mr. Biggs.

On days when I really feel out of sync, I try to remember the loves of my life. We have our good, bad and really ugly moments but if we had to do life over again, I will still choose them.

For me, family is everything
